Blowing a Kiss... The Wrong Way into a Red Plastic Megaphone found on the beach
I was walking on the beach early morning after July 4th, taking pictures of objects left behind after the fireworks and partying. Cups, towels, firecracker tubes and boxes, even tiny yellow exploding cardboard tanks.
Suddenly my husband picked up a red plastic megaphone and pointed it in my direction. "What a shot!" I thought as I took aim and... clicked.
I love that you see the shadow of his hands holding the megaphone. That you see his lips blowing into it. That the light emblazons the surrounding red.
No, it's not a macro shot of plants or flowers, but this image tickles my fancy. Hope it tickles yours!
2nd SIP flower pot conversion, 2011
This is an existing metal flower planter doubled-lined with plastic to make it retain water. The 4" perforated tube is closed at either end with a yoghurt container cut in half and capped with its lid. The recycled juice bottle retains its bottom as a lid (wired) in order to keep debris out of the watering tube. A strip of bicycle rubber is cut and placed over the mouth of the water bottle to prevent soil from getting into the perforated tube where both the mouth of the water bottle and tube meet. In this SIP manifestation the overflow tube is on the same end as the water bottle.

It's easy to make your own hummingbird feeder with these inexpensive, foolproof feeder tubes. Use any type bottle, jar or other container for liquid. All you need is an opening into which you push the rubber stopper on the feeder tube. The stopper is tapered and measures 1" at the top and 5/8" at the bottom. The curved plastic tube has a red tip to attract hummingbirds. Potters will find these feeder tubes perfect for completing a handmade feeder. For the crafts-minded person, plastic pop bottles make excellent containers. You can also use glass jars with lids. Just drill a hole in the lid and insert the feeder. Important: make sure that the rubber stopper fits tightly into your container to prevent leakage at the tip. You get a total of 12 feeder inserts in this offer, each one consisting of a transparent feeder tube, a red cap with feeding hole and a rubber stopper. They are assembled and ready to use.
